Weekly Wishes on Living What You Love

I'm happy to say that I had more success with my weekly wishes from last week.  My first goal was to walk at least 15,000 steps every day with my new Fitbit Zip, and I nailed it.  It definitely took some effort, meaning I did lots of extra walking on the treadmill, walking the long way around places, and even jogging on the spot to get the step count higher at the end of the day.  I'm still loving my Fitbit, and it's definitely getting me to move around more. Today I went through my closet … [Read more...]

Life has felt like such a whirlwind lately.  Between an extremely busy work calendar, hanging out with friends, and all the little projects I want to work on, I've really been cherishing my Sundays these last couple of weeks.  I always do my best to keep Sundays relaxing and commitment free, to make sure that I get a day of unwinding and doing whatever I like. Today will be full of Chris and I watching the Olympics, playing our new board game Takenoko, and quite possibly ordering pho and … [Read more...]

When Can You Call Yourself a Writer?

Writing Wednesday: When Can You Call Yourself a Writer?

You hesitate to call yourself a writer. You don’t include it in your online bio or social media profiles.  You don’t tell your friends that you’re a writer and you don’t introduce yourself as a writer to people you meet.  You may refer to yourself as an aspiring writer from time to time, but never just a writer.  There’s always an adjective attached clarifying that you are not a real writer yet. Instead, you’re waiting until you’ve got a book published before you can use the word writer. … [Read more...]

Weekly Wishes 2

Last Week's Wishes Out of my three wishes last week, I only completed one, but it was also my first week of Weekly Wishes so that means I get to consider it a win still right?  Yes, let's go with that. I did read The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman, and it wasn't quite what I was expecting.  Much more fantasy than I thought it would be, so it was mysterious, a little creepy, and highly imaginative.  Really though, that's Neil Gaiman in a nutshell.  The Ocean was a quick, enjoyable … [Read more...]

Chris and I had a classic date night last night: dinner and a movie.  We went to see The Secret Life of Walter Mitty in the cheap theatre, and absolutely loved it.  It had everything I stand for: taking chances, making changes, going on adventures, and living a life you love.  It was funny, heartwarming, and inspiring.  And it had gorgeous cinematography and a kickass soundtrack.  I highly recommend it! Now it's Super Bowl Sunday, so we'll be spending the day watching, eating … [Read more...]

Saturday Sounds: Ra Ra Riot

Saturday Sounds: Ra Ra Riot on Living What You Love

Ever find a great band that you absolutely love, listen to them non-stop for two weeks, and then somehow go months without listening to them?  That's exactly what happened with me and Ra Ra Riot.  I don't remember how I found Ra Ra Riot last year, but they came up on random on my mp3 player this week and I was reminded of their greatness. I pretty much fall immediately in love with any band that includes strings, so falling in love with Ra Ra Riot was a no brainer for me: they included both a … [Read more...]

Weekly Wishes #1

A few days ago, I came across the Weekly Wishes link up, created and hosted by Melyssa of The Nectar Collective.  I loved it immediately!  Dozens of bloggers link to their own weekly wishes, a handful of things they want to achieve in the coming week. Weekly Wishes struck a chord with me right away.  I love having my life list written down, and I wrote earlier this month about my goals for 2014 too.  But I've never really thought about the smaller goals on a more regular basis, like folding … [Read more...]

Link Loving - Living What You Love

Between my two jobs, Sunday is my one day off a week and that means I'll usually be spending my day sleeping in, relaxing, and catching up on blogs, tweets, and links saved in my Pocket app.  I'll be sharing my favourite finds with you, in hopes that I won't be the only one wasting spending my day lost in the ongoing spiral of the Internet.  Be warned though: my interests vary widely so don't be surprised by all the different topics and randomness whenever I share a Link Loving with you.  But … [Read more...]

Saturday Sounds: The Head and the Heart

Saturday Sounds - The Head and the Heart on Living What You Love

I think I'm going to enjoy hopping on the Saturday Sounds bandwagon for a little while.  One thing I love is listening to music, but I never seem to be able to listen to enough because there's so much out there!  I'm hoping to turn that around a little bit, so every Saturday I'm going to showcase a song or a band that I'm crushing on for the week. First up is The Head and the Heart, an indie folk rock band from Seattle.  I first heard of them when it was announced that they were coming to the … [Read more...]

Writing Wednesday: 5 Photo Writing Prompts

Writing Wednesday, 5 fiction and nonfiction writing prompts.

Every now and then (read: often), I draw a blank and run out of ideas on what to write.  Throughout the years, I've turned to writing prompts to help jumpstart my brain and give me an idea.  The beautiful thing about using writing prompts is that they will help you come up with ideas that you wouldn't have thought about normally, and they can really help you to break out of your box. While it's quite common to use a written prompt, I also like to turn to photos for inspiration as well.  I'll … [Read more...]
